Best cleaning hacks for around the home
Tips, Hacks, Ideas
I mentioned yesterday Al and I sat down a while ago and spoke about diving up household responsibilities & created a schedule - this also included house cleaning ... which we're the first to admit - we absolutely do not love doing. One of our goals for the new house is to have a house cleaner -we've written it down and WE ARE going to make it happen!
We do our big weekly clean on Saturday mornings during Goldie's first nap, we divide up the tasks, put our noice cancelling earphones, tune into good podcasts and get to work. This week we asked on Tips, Hacks, Ideas for your best cleaning hacks around the house - there is sooo much gold in this post .... it's definitely not the most exciting topic but it's something we've all gotta do!
We hope you find some value in this one, a big thank you to everyone who sent through their hacks - we'll be trying the microwave trick tomorrow and I'm weirdly excited about it....
Best cleaning hacks for around the home
Use baking soda, hot water & tin foil to clean the glass of your oven door, you can also use this to clean your oven racks by soaking them in the bathtub
Fill a dishwashing brush with shower cleaner and clean whilst showering (get the kids involved)
Vacuum wearing noise-cancelling earphones & listen to a good podcast
Fold your washing as you take it off the line
Make your own cleaning spray using water, a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid & Aesop essential oil (to make it fancy)
Buy a robo vacuum
Begin in the least used room & work your way through the house (so you set the standard & don't run out of steam)
Vacuum your way out of a room
Drop your oven vents into a boiling pot of water with baking soda in it (use tongs)
Clean your window screens with a lint roller - genius?
Place a cardboard tube on the end of your vacuum to get into tiny spaces such as window tracks, under your kitchen appliances, the corner of your kitchen drawers, and between your couch cushions
Use a broom to clean your skirting boards by wrapping a cloth around the end of your broom and securing it with a rubber band
Fill your toilet brush holder with cleaner and let your brush soak in that between uses
Fill a microwave safe bowl with 1/2 cup of water, 1/4 cup of white vinegar, and the juice of one lemon (it helps with the smell, but it isn't necessary for the hack to work). Set it inside of your microwave, and let it run for three minutes. After the timer goes off, wait another two to four minutes before opening the door - use paper towel to wipe out
Magic eraser, apparently it cleans everything!
Clean rooms top to bottom
Keep your sponges, mop heads, and scrub brushes clean by rinsing them after each use and allowing them to dry in a well-ventilated area
Create a cleaning schedule

Both Al and I love timber and we love to cook, so when it came to designing and building our kitchen we wanted to create a functional space and felt beautiful to be in. The kitchen has become the heart of our home, with our island bench the place we all gather around.
In the heart of our home lies a space where functionality seamlessly intertwines with style – our compact European laundry. Today, we're excited to share the design details and thoughtful choices we made to create this space.
