The work holiday we didn’t know we needed
slow down with unyoked
Our journal is a space for us grow our conscious community and share our experiences and other people’s. We’ve mentioned these guys plenty of times on our Instagram and emails and absolutely fell in love with our experience - getting Unyoked.
I think everyone can agree that you can get caught up in the work cycle. Especially if you’re like us; small business owners who both work from home - all day, everyday.
Why did we love our Unyoked experience so much?
It gave us space away from doing to think.
We spent two nights tucked away in the wilderness disconnected from all outside communication and distractions and it was pure bloody bliss. Here’s a little re-cap of our trip away, also I think this is a great time to mention that this blog post is in no-way sponsored by Unyoked, in-fact this experience was sponsored by our legend mates who gifted it to Al for his birthday. The reason why we want to share our experience is because it hands-down was the work holiday we didn’t know we needed. If you haven’t heard of this place before, than this is our gift to you - do yourself a favour and get Unyoked.
getting there -
Up until this point all you know is that you have a booking in a cabin… somewhere. Unyoked do not disclose where the location is until you receive a map prior to departure and just so you know, all of the Instagram stalking won’t get you any closer to figuring it out. We had our car packed with goodies suggested from their packing list - books, food, wine etc. We put the co-ordinates in our GPS and moved in the direction it told us - we drove through beautiful areas with little knowledge of where we were at all. The GPS will only get you so far, you’re then left to your own devices - and if you’re as good at following directions like we are, you’re bound to get a little lost.
You know those movies that follow a character who’s the only person left on earth? … that’s kinda how it felt.
We found where we needed to be, an arrangement of necessities lay waiting for our arrival. walking into the clearing and couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces - our own little cabin in the wilderness to call our own for two nights.
We checked our phones - yep, no reception - ditched them and didn’t pick them up again until we got home.
DAY ONE - afternoon
Full of excitement - exploring, poking around the cabin sussing out how everything had been made - thinking how clever this all is. Along came the wine, the cheese, the risotto cooked on the outside camp stove. Boots around a roaring fire, gazing at the stars.
Pitch-black, solid, uninterrupted sleep.
Day two
We slept in… something that we don’t do often! We slowly woke up, cooked a big breakfast on the outside barbecue and then adventured off on a big bush walk. This is when the ideas came flooding in - big, beautiful WILD ideas - we spent the afternoon writing in our notepads. Over a couple of cups of tea we talked about our business, where we started, what we’ve achieved and where we’re going.
our takeaway from our unyoked experience?
Nature and a forced digital detox is the perfect antidote to stress. Sometimes all you need to do is step away from your business to get some perspective.
We loved this experience and we’re looking forward to our next Unyoked adventure.
