Our DIY Nursery Reveal
Our Nursery has been a long time in the making with plenty of planning, designing, prepping and making but gosh all of the hard work was worth it once we saw out little Goldie girl in her cot!
Al and I always knew we wanted to build our own nursery furniture, there’s something so special about creating family heirlooms that we can pass on through our children. All of the furniture in the nursery is built by us.
We’ll forever cherish the time we spent together in the workshop throughout the pregnancy working on all of these pieces. A huge shoutout to Al for finishing all of these piece before she arrived - in fact my contractions started as soon as I saw the Cot was going to be finished in time (you can read more about that here).
We designed the pieces to match the existing furniture in our house - rounded edges and Vic Ash timber. We always wanted to create pieces that could grow with us as a family, for example we had the Rocking Chair upholstered in orange fabric to match the couch in our living room so we can use the chair out there once we graduate from breastfeeding. The Baby Change Tray is removable from the Chest of Drawers and the Cot rails can be removed and turned into a toddler bed.
I was gifted a beautiful “Here Comes The Sun” print by my best friend which inspired the colours for the nursery - orange, yellow, rust pink and sky blue. I picked up some linen fabric from The Fabric Store and sewed the Baby Quilt and Sun Cushion.
We finished the room off by making small items like the Hanging Bookshelves, Floating Shelf and Baby Gym. We even changed the handles on the cupboard to match and you can watch a DIY video on how to do that here.
To finish it all off we chose a really lush rug from Rugs For Good and linen curtains from I Love Linen.
Thank you to our wonderful family and friends for all of your thoughtful and beautiful gifts, these special pieces are really what makes a house a home.
