Goldie's Big Move: Transitioning from Cot to Big Girl Bed in Style

Exciting news in the household – Goldie has officially graduated from her cot and into her big girl bed! The transition marks a new chapter for our little explorer, and we couldn't be prouder of our growing girl.

Al and I decided to make this milestone extra special by giving Goldie's bedroom a vibrant makeover. We wanted the space to reflect her personality – full of colour, joy, and a touch of whimsy.

1. The Perfect Bed:

Goldie's new big girl bed is nothing short of magical. We opted to make a Platform Low Bed from Vic Ash in a single size, we kept the design simple as we’ll likely convert it into a bunk bed for when she and Daisy are old enough. After sleeping on a Peace Lily mattress ourselves for years it was a no-brainer that we would get one for Goldie’s bedroom too. They are non-toxic and completely free from polyurethane foams and harmful chemicals … Plus, they’re super comfortable.

2. A Splash of Colour:

We asked Goldie what her favourite colours were and she said - pink & yellow. We chose “Nice Hat” by “Mimi” by Tint Paint. I also had Goldie paint a painting for her bedroom using leftover house paint. Walking into her bedroom is like a burst of sunshine… just like her.

3. Personal Touches:

To make the space truly hers, we added some personalised touches. Starting with her name on the door, a desk with art supplies to get crafty, dress-up clothes, her favourite books on display, and, of course, her beloved stuffed animals. It's her little sanctuary, and we wanted every corner to reflect her uniqueness.

4. DIY Decor:

Keeping true to our DIY roots, we made everything in her room. Click here to view our DIY projects.

5. Celebrating the Milestone:

Moving from a cot to a big girl bed is a significant step, and we celebrated it with books and cuddles. Goldie was beaming with excitement as she got tucked into her new bed surrounded by her favourite people – us, Edwina our pup, and her baby sister Daisy.

We're so stoked to see Goldie embrace this new phase with such enthusiasm, and we hope her colourful haven brings her endless joy and sweet dreams. Here's to more milestones, DIY adventures, and the boundless creativity that fills our home.
